Moving from Buffalo, New York to Fort Myers was a huge transition for Autumn Skye, and she quickly noticed the lack of “L” in the southwest Florida LGBT community.
Hatching Hen House Entertainment was Autumn’s solution, and rumors have started already about the new queer showcase. Five teasing burlesque chicks and seven male-impersonating cocks (or drag kings) perform in the ensemble. The queens of burlesque are dramatic, sometimes quirky and seductive peep showers, offering frill and femininity in contrast to their counterparts, the drag kings. As the public is more familiar with the concept of drag queens, the studs performing in Hen House double as educators in the art of Male Impersonation. From their beard stubble to their package, the drag kings are sure to leave many blushing cheeks in the crowd.
Autumn Skye, properly known as Jodi Hahn, sees the troupe as an opportunity to bring the community together. “You don’t have to be a woman or gay to feel welcome [at our shows], just have an open mind,” she says. Pick Your Poison, the appropriately titled first show offers ladies and gentlewomen of every style, from Vaudeville vintage to Lil’ Wayne. Tubby’s Video Bar in Fort Myers is the home base for Hen House Entertainment, and the venue for their opening exhibition on Saturday, May 28th.
