We sent our own eleven year-old food critic Michael Alex to deliver a first-hand account of National Donut Day at Bennett’s Fresh Roast in Fort Myers, FL.
On National Donut Day, I went to Bennett’s Fresh Roast in Fort Myers for the first time to try their donuts. When I got there, the line was out the door. It was worth the wait. This place is really good!
Ambiance
While I was waiting to order, I had some time to look at the place. There are a mix of styles in Bennett’s. The wall colors and the framed records on the wall are classic. The tables are fiesta-inspired. The donuts came out in baskets that reminded me of a diner. I think Bennett’s looks fashionable.
When I got to the donut case I saw it was empty.
A lot of people must like their donuts. They brought some out finally, and I ordered four.
There was no space at the tables so I sat on a couch. The couch had huge donut pillows on it, which were also kinda like donut bracelets.
Appearance
In terms of looks, I had to rate the donuts like this:
- Chocolate Sprinkle
- Cinnamon and Sugar
- Glazed
- Maple Bacon
The Taste Test
I tried the Maple Bacon donut first. Looking at it was gross. My eyes opened wide because I was surprised by the taste. It was good. The bread was soft and moist. I could taste maple, but it was also salty because of the bacon. A+
Next, I tried the Chocolate Sprinkle donut. The chocolate was rich, and the sprinkles were soft. This donut goes
good with milk. A
Then, I tried a Glazed donut. This is a classic donut. When I think of a donut, I think of this. The bread was soft. It tasted buttery. B
Last I tried the Cinnamon and Sugar donut. It was not as sweet as the others, even though it was covered in sugar. I expected more from it. B-
Overall…
National Donut Day for me at Bennett’s Fresh Roast was awesome. You can tell that Bennett’s puts a lot of effort into their donuts. I liked it because it’s a unique experience that makes you want to come back. This is the best donut shop I’ve ever been to in my life.
